#Operation Penny – Week Eight

28 Feb

I’ve been a bit naughty this week. I haven’t really been eating enough. In fact, way, way, way to little. Like only one meal a day most days with a snack or two thrown in if I’m lucky which is not enough. (I just realised that the link on my side bar goes to Livestrong where I’m no longer tracking so have updated it to a MyFitnessPal one. My blog needs a complete overhaul but I just don’t have the time at the moment.) It’s been a mixture of stress, excitement and anticipation all of which have turned out to be unnecessary but the good thing is I am still in that better place in general. For all my efforts I weighed myself this morning and I am very close to being the lightest I have been in almost 5 years at 135.6lbs. That’s a loss of 2.8lbs in just one week which if I’m honest is probably too much. I don’t however want to get back into the habit of eating when I’m not hungry but hopefully the sick feeling I’ve been getting just thinking of food will start to fade again.

At the beginning of February I set myself some goals so lets see how I did:

  • Lose 6lbs – I think (although I don’t explicitly state it) that I was 143lbs and am now down to 135.6lbs so total loss of 7.4lbs!
  • Do at least 10 minutes exercise every day – hmm… yeah this didn’t happen :( have started going for a walk at lunchtime again though!
  • Go to 6 dance classes – been to 7 this week :)
  • Go to 6 bootcamp classes – 6 completed, got another 4 still to use up
  • Go swimming twice – fail, didn’t even make it once

Not too shabby to be honest especially since my heart wasn’t really in it completely for the whole month. I think I’d like to set some more goals for March as the closer I get to my goal the more focused I become. In March i would like to:

  • Go for a walk at least 3 lunchtimes a week
  • Finish my 4 bootcamp sessions
  • Go swimming twice
  • Buy proper running shoes and start couch to 5k program

No weight loss specific goals as those last 5-10lbs are always the hardest! I also had an amazing discovery today when I found a list of measurements from last Summer. Although I’m not due to measure for a fortnight I thought I’d do it next week and compare the two. I am already astounded just by these numbers on their own!

  • Weight – 163.8lbs
  • Bust –  40″
  • Chest – 33″
  • Left upper arm –  14″
  • Right upper arm –  14″
  • Left forearm –  10.25″
  • Right forearm –  10.5″
  • Waist –  33.75″
  • Hips – 43.25″
  • Abdomen – 41.25″
  • Left Thigh –  26.5″
  • Right Thigh –  26.5″
  • Left Calf –  16.25″
  • Right Calf –  16″

If I were to tell you

27 Feb

I finished my poem. It didn’t take anywhere near as long as I expected. In fact I did it over my lunch break at work on Friday. I’ve only waited til now to post as I wanted to make sure I loved it and had time to tweak bits. I don’t think I’ve ever shared my poetry in such a public manner before but it feels quite liberating. I guess it all ties in with the new say what you feel attitude I’ve been taking.

If I were to tell you

If I were to tell you I loved you would you turn me away?
Tell me there’s no hope now, nothing more to say.

We’ve been through so much now is it really the end?
You are and will always, be the best of all friends.

We needed some time now, this much is clear.
But now I’m no longer frozen by fear.

I’m standing before you a girl no longer scared.
With a heart full of love just waiting to be shared.

If I were to tell you I loved you would you turn me away?
Tell me there’s no hope now, nothing more to say.

If you want to leave a comment, positive or negative, please do :)

#48. Take my niece to Disneyland Paris

26 Feb

This is a biggie for me to have crossed off the list. I spent four whole days looking after my niece, taking her on her first flight and navigating Disneyland with her and my (no-sense-of-direction-at-all) dad and survived to tell the tale. It was exhausting and expensive but completely and utterly worth it.

We set off on the Friday morning for the short 2 hour flight to Charles de Gaulle airport all rosy-cheeked and excited despite the early morning wake-up call. As I always am when travelling I was nervous about making sure it was all timed right and that everything was checked off the list but it all went smoothly and we were safely belted in for takeoff with no tantrums. I was a bit worried that my niece would hate it, scream and then cry for the rest of the flight. She didn’t, she loved it especially takeoff and the flight passed without incident.

We had a few issues trying to find out way to the VEA bus-stop (thanks to my inability to read signs) but we got there and the rest of the journey to DisneyLand was a breeze. The bus from Charles De Gaulle takes less than an hour and takes you to all the official Disney hotels. We were only staying in their partner Dream Castle Hotel so had another 10 minute (free) shuttle journey before we arrived.

The hotel itself was very nice and well worth the bargain price we paid for it. I’m not going to go into a long review about it though and I while would recommend it for families travelling on a budget I’m not sure it would be quite as suitable for a romantic couples getaway. It has a bar, (very expensive) restaurant, swimming pool, spa and gym most of which I didn’t get the chance to use! All the hotels also provide free shuttle buses to the train station which is located right at the entrance to Disney Village and the parks (there are two in case you didn’t know!). We spent a nice chilled evening in the pool and then had an early night. (Unfortunately I spent half the night awake while my niece threw up with the excitement!)

This weekend was (almost) completely for my niece so she was in charge. She had the choice of the two parks and chose to visit the Disneyland Park itself on the Saturday (she wanted to see the castle) and save our visit to the Studios for the Sunday. This worked out quite well as the parks were open later on the Sunday and Disneyland Park is quite a bit bigger than Disney Studios. After a short wait in the main queue we were redirected to a special disabled queue. (my niece has various health issues that I don’t want to go into on this blog but the worst of these affects her legs so we weren’t entirely sure how she would cope with two full days of walking) Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of the guy who served us but he could not have been nicer and explained that we would have to pay for her ticket (€91 for a 2-day, 2-park ticket) and I as the carer would get in for free! (Score) he also advised us where within the park we could collect a special card that would allow us to either skip the queue so she didn’t have to wait or get a time to come back for the really busy rides. We then paid for my dad’s ticket using Tesco Clubcard deal vouchers that we sent off for before they changed their worth so we saved some more money there! (Just goes to show that just because you’re somewhere expensive doesn’t mean you have to stop being moneysaving!) After some faffing about because our first set of tickets wouldn’t work we were in and we were off!

We spent the rest of the day going from area to area, ride to ride with hardly any time to stop and breathe. My niece loved every minute of it and her disabled pass was a godsend. If we hadn’t had it there was no way we would have gotten through all that we did. Late afternoon early evening there were waits of over an hour for even some of the smaller rides. My niece is (generally) a true girls girl and loved Fantasyland most with its old fashioned carousel and teacup rides:

She adored Sleeping Beauty’s castle even though she was disappointed she couldn’t ‘go to Aurora’s room and play with her’. We had a great time in Disoveryland with Buzz Lightyear’s Laser Blast and the Star Tours simulator. We didn’t spend much time in Adventureland as she wasn’t tall enough to ride the Indiana Jones rollercoaster and wasn’t interested in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride (which I’ve been on before in Florida and can honestly say is awesome!) but we did explore Adventure Isle and it’s caves as well as having a well-earned rest while she played in Pirates Beach. We saved Frontierland and Big Thunder Mountain til last which was a shame as it was the only rollercoaster she was allowed on and by the time we got there we had missed the ferry-boat ride and only had one chance on the coaster. BUT… to say she loved it would be the understatement of the century and I will never forget the grin on her face as we dismounted. I think it was the best possible way to have ended the day.

We started off our Sunday quite sleepy so set out a bit later than intended. I was a bit concerned that my niece wouldn’t enjoy the second day as much as looking at the flyers Walt Disney Studios seemed to be much smaller than Disneyland itself and there were a few rides that we weren’t sure she would be big enough for but thankfully my worries were unfounded and we had another fantastic day.

Walt Disney Studios is a calmer paced park that the main one in that it does a lot of stage performances and interactive shows but with an excited six-year-old in tow we didn’t really get much of an opportunity to enjoy these! The one exception being an interactive Lilo and Stitch show which was just fantastic as it involved the kids and the audience. I thoroughly recommend it!  The Studios is also definitely the better park for the more daring theme park goers with the Rock n’ Roller Coaster and RC Racer (both of which I unfortunately didn’t get to ride on) but they also have plenty for the kiddies with Crush’s Coaster and Aladdin’s flying carpets. It also seems to be the main home for the new generation, namely Toy Story, Wall-E and Monster’s Inc which I completely and totally adore as you can tell by the piccies below:

We also had time to catch the fantastic Studio Tram Tour where you get to see lots of props and sets that were used in actual movies as well as see how some of the real special effects are done. Well worth a look and a lovely chance to chill. The biggest surprise of the day was my niece wanting to go on the Tower of Terror and then loving it so much we went on again later! There were grown men and women screaming their heads off which she just sat there gripping on for dear life with the biggest smile on her face. (I think she’s going to be a bit of an adrenaline junkie like her auntie!!)

Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to see any of the parades and my niece wasn’t interested in the meet and greets (although she stood fascinated staring at a wicked witch from one of the movies for absolutely ages while not daring to go anywhere near her!) Despite this I would still say we packed in probably more than you should into a weekend and were utterly exhausted the next day for our trip into Paris itself (separate post coming for that. I’m almost done with this one I’m sure you’ll be glad to hear!)

I’ve included just a few pictures to brighten up this ridiculously wrong post but I have hundreds of others and it’s given me the facilities to start working towards another 101 goal: #67. Make my niece a scrapbook. I’m also still searching for my inspirational quote to turn into a piece of art (#68) so a crafty post coming up soon hopefully!

A (soon-to-be) Poem

25 Feb

I’ve had what I thought were the first two lines of a poem that I wrote a long time ago stuck for in my head for most of the last week. Last night I finally dug out my notebook where I have all my poetry and songs written only to discover, to my disappointment, that there is no more. This was as far as I had got (to put it in perspective I have about 5 or 6 A4 sides of paper with just two or four lines of various unfinished poems so it’s not really a surprise lol). Anyway, I love these lines to pieces and I think it deserves to be made into something more so I’m putting back on my creativity hat and am going to get scribbling. I’ll let you know what I come up with.

P.S – For those interested in what those two lines are:

If I were to tell you I loved you would you turn me away?
Tell me there’s no hope now, nothing more to say.

{For those interested, I finished it :) }

Sunshine After the Rain

23 Feb

I’ve tried and failed to write this post so many times but I just could not find the words. I think I maybe felt that I was jumping the gun, that it was too good to be true, that I was fooling myself. But I have been in two situations in the last few days that have proven to me that I am no longer that sad, scared and lonely person that I was. Had I been faced with these challenges back then I wouldn’t have handled them the way that I did. I would have doubted myself, withdrawn from the situation and hoped that they would blow over but instead I tackled them head on.

I’m a changed person. Not different or new just changed. For the better. I like it. I wake up in the morning and although I still struggle to get out of bed it’s because it is so comfy and cosy, not because I don’t want to face the world. I’m more confident and willing to say what I think without being afraid I’ll look stupid. I find myself doing little things to make other people smile that I wouldn’t even have considered before. Just because. Like an unexpected card, giving up my seat on the bus for someone or just smiling at people in the street. I’m a happy person… well, mostly!

I know what I want from life now. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have everything figured out but I know the main things. The important things. I have no idea in which order I should approach them or for the most part how I should go about manifesting these goals. I no longer regret the path that my life has taken over the last six months or have any bad feelings for what took me there. I’m stronger and I’m ready to fight for the things I want.

A quick plea

22 Feb

So a bit of a break from my normal posting schedule (ha! what’s that!) to plea for your generosity and hard earned cash. Somehow I’ve signed myself up for an 80ft abseil in order to raise funds to support my companies chosen charity for 2011: Enable Scotland. Despite being a self-confessed adrenaline junkie 80ft is no small task so please, please dig deep and help me smash my fundraising target of £250.00.

You can donate online at my JustGiving page: http://www.justgiving.com/Leanne-Fraser or if you live in the ‘Deen to me in person. I’ll be be bringing my form to the March Aberdeen #TheMeet140 but I won’t be mentioning it on the evening – if you want to donate seek me out!

The more I raise the more good they can do – so what are you waiting for?! Thank you for your support

#Operation Penny – Week Seven

21 Feb

Feeling much more positive this week. Have been trying to eat intuitively which has at times meant letting myself eat the chocolate angel delight for pudding and this seems to have worked well for the most part. However while this seems to be going well I think I’m going to go back to tracking on MyFitnessPal again.

The Wii failed me today so I dug out my old faithful electric scales to weigh myself and was pleased to see that I’m now down to 138.4lbs as of this morning. To be honest I think I had struck a bit of a plateau and was getting demotivated and frustrated. A week off while I was away in Paris etc seems to have done me the world of good and I’m now feeling even more determined to hit my goal. (Speaking of Paris there will be a post full of piccies up soon but my interwebs at home is not working so I can’t get them uploaded *sigh* – only managed to get yesterdays piccies uploaded on a friends Wifi!)

I’m not going to hit every target on my goals for February but that’s OK. I feel like I’m slowly starting to settle into a routine that is manageable for me long term and once I no longer have to think about it maintaining my new shape should be easier. Bootcamp is going well and I’m already thinking about whether I’m going to continue with it after the 10 sessions or not. As much as I love it I don’t know if I will (or I’ll cut it down to once a week) as I’ve been seriously thinking about signing up for the Race for Life at the start of July and since I can barely run for 5 minutes straight running for 5k might be an issue!

Anyway, all positive over here this week – long may it continue :)

Good things of 2011 – Part 7

20 Feb

1. Disneyland – All of it!

2. Finally getting to see the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre if only from an open top bus!

3. Seeing Tangled at the Cinema with my niece

4. Finally getting my (almost) £200 refund from TheTrainline.com after 3 months!

5. Getting back to bootcamp after a week off from all things fitness. It was disgusting, cold and wet but still GREAT fun!

A little bit of me time

18 Feb

Originally I had plans to go to the cinema and see Black Swan last night but this changed and rather than fill my evening up with A.N.Other activity I decided to take a well earned evening out to spend on myself. Looking back over my filofax I hadn’t had scheduled Me Time since November 24th! Eeks!

After completing a couple of errands I finally got home around 6pm changed into my jammies and just did what I wanted. I did feel a little guilty as my room needs tidying and paperwork needs doing but I also know that I deserved it so kept ignoring that little voice (I’m getting quite good at that now actually!) I messed about on Twitter, caught up with my Google Reader, scheduled/started writing a few posts and then chilled out with the next DVD of Charmed from Lovefilm. I think I was asleep by 10pm!

I’m off to the bank after work and then no more to do! Have an Indian head massage booked at 8.30pm so it looks like another relaxing night for me! Why don’t you schedule an evening off while the nights are still long?
