Blitz Ball

30 Apr

Last night a few friends and I headed to The Tunnels in Aberdeen for a 1940s themed Blitz Ball. It was being held by a group of RGU students to help raise funds for CLAN and boy what an evening it was! The whole place looked amazing with British flags everywhere, themed finger food (cake pops are the best idea EVER!), a swing dance lesson and a fantastic band! Everyone really got into the swing of things and looked amazing too! Here’s just some piccies of the gorgeous girlies and charming chaps!

Blitz Belles

More Blitz Belles

I cannot believe what a fantastic time was had by all and am still buzzing today. (And no, thats not the alcohol talking!) Hopefully there will be more theme nights this held in future as I do love any excuse to get dressed up and party! The night was so amazing that even Kate and Wills popped in on their Wedding night! (Unfortunatley my own Prince Charming was no where to be seen!)

If you want to see more piccies head on over to The Blitz Ball Aberdeen Facebook page or my own album here.

OOTD: A Royal Wedding

29 Apr

This is not a fashion blog. Nor is it likely to become one but as I did not post yesterday (that’s 3 missed days in BEDA now :( ) I figured I had better post something today – and I decided to give an outfit post a go!

Today was THE day. The royal wedding day. Thankfully I had been able to avoid most of the hysteria running up to today so that I could actually enjoy it when it finally came around and enjoy it I did.

Unfortunately I was at work so couldn’t get dressed up to the nines but here’s my Wedding inspired outfit for dress down Friday:

My outfit got me more compliments at work again (2nd time in a week!) and I <3 my little flower headband thingamy :) its just adorable.

I’m currently getting ready for the 1940s themed Blitz Ball being held for charity in Aberdeen at The Tunnels tonight and am actually way behind schedule so will let you guys know all about it tomorrow!

Craft Update: Thank You Cards

27 Apr

A couple weekends ago I finally set aside some time to get some card making in as I needed to get my niece to make a couple for mothers day. I also wanted to make some thank you cards for those who very generously sponsored me for my abseil who I won’t see in person to say thank you to. (Hopefully they will have received them before this post is published but if not I’m sorry you were spoiled!)

My mum is not a fan of cross stitch so I went with a simple design using some stickers that have been cluttering up my craft cupboard for a while. I always struggle with writing on cards, think I need to stock up on some stamps as with stickers you’re never really sure if you’re going to have the right amount of letters for what you want to say!

I made a few quickie thank you cards for ones I needed to get posted ASAP and I’ve also got a whole wee book full of thank you cross-stitch designs that I wanted to get some use out of so I made a few of those too.

I also made birthday cards for my sister and nephew but completely forgot to photograph them before sealing them up… oops!

My craft room at the flat is one of the first places I’m getting ship shape so hopefully I will have a lovely space to work in resulting in more inspiration and posts like these!

#Operation Penny – Week Sixteen

25 Apr

I think I may have miscalculated somewhere along the lines. I weighed in on the Wii Fit this morning at 138lbs but it said I had gained a pound so I obviously miscalculated a couple of weeks ago and was actually hovering at 137lbs instead of 139 but anyway! The fact still stands that I have put on a pound over the last week and this is what I expected – with nights out and Easter this weekend I have consumed way too much chocolate and cocktails (nothing knew there then!)

But I have also made progress with exercising and started back at dance classes as well as finally getting round to starting couch to 5k (although I have only managed day one over the last 5 days!) . I bought the official app from iTunes and have to admit that it is fantastic. You create your own playlist, select the workout day, push play and away you go. The voiceover prompts tell you when to walk or run and if you want to know how long you have left it tells you how many sections you have left of each as well (took me a while to figure that out!). I’m hoping I can focus on this properly and get week one completed this week and start kicking ass in May (which can you believe starts on Sunday!!!)

I also need to start tracking again and watch. what. I. am. eating!! But I seem to be so manically busy all of the time that I just grab and go. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve just grabbed something from the baker instead of sitting down and eating a proper meal. I’m really hoping to be moved into the flat this weekend (but if I’m honest I think that’s a bit ambitious!) so I should find that I’m cooking more and also working out more once the kinect in set up!

Good things of 2011 – Part 16

24 Apr

This week has kinda all mushed together as I’ve been so busy mainly working on the flat and I’m not really sure what to write about this week so I thought I’d list some of the more random items that I have found in the flat since buying it!

1. A sparkly mask

2. A very cool torch (reminds me of Bioshock)

3. A bag of kids playsand

4. Not one, not two but three hoovers (who needs three hoovers?!)

5. A table and two stools that look like they’ve been stolen from a bar!

#72. Buy flowers for someone

23 Apr

I’ve bought flowers for people before. Usually my mum or gran for their birthday but always for a reason. I wanted to buy flowers for someone for no reason at all. A random act of kindness to hopefully brighten someone’s day and earlier this week I had the urge to do just that. My target? The gorgeous Sarah of Sarah’s Scribbles!

The piccie above is of the arrangement I chose, a mix of pink roses, freesias and alstromeria. Now I’m not naive enough to think that they actually arrived looking quite that nice but hopefully they were still nice enough that they can be put on display for a day or two before dying! I was starting to get a bit nervous when I hadn’t heard anything by mid-afternoon thinking they weren’t going to arrive but then I got this Tweet and was super relieved!

It felt nice knowing I had made someone smile unexpectedly and it’s given me the buzz for more random acts of kindness so who knows what I might get up to or who my next target will be. It could even be you…

#73. Plant a tree

22 Apr

“The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is now” (African proverb)

So today if you weren’t aware is Earth Day I only found out about it thanks to it being the Google logo for today  (why Earth Hour is held on a different day I have no idea!) Unfortunately after browsing the events and finding pretty much nothing for the whole of the UK I spotted a link to Trees4Scotland and figured it was the perfect chance to complete goal #73 and plant a tree! Personally I would have preferred to do the planting myself but this will suffice AND because Trees4Scotland have partnered up with the Earth Day Network they will actually plant 2 trees for my measly tenner!

Go on, what are you waiting for?

Brought to you by Buddy

21 Apr

This post is being brought to you today from the paws of Buddy the bulldog. Say hello Buddy:

We’re currently puppy sitting as my aunt has unfortunately had to go into hospital unexpectedly. He’s the cutest, most adorable, lazy wee thing you have ever met and I have fallen in love with him big time already. So much so that I’m not looking forward to giving him back tomorrow :( but we may get him again next week if my aunt hasn’t been let out! Yay!

So I missed yet another day of BEDA yesterday. I don’t really know what happened I got home and just completely crashed. I actually fell asleep on top of my bed fully clothed with my bedroom door open and the light on. I then woke up at 4am with excruciating stomache cramps and ended up not going to work. It was the worst day possible to be ill but I could barely move. I’ve been mega busy as of late with work and the flat but don’t really have a lot to say at the moment. We are most definitely making progress and that is the main thing! Until tomorrow!

Top Ten – Things to Do {BEDA}

19 Apr

Wow, I am utterly exhausted tonight and was struggling to think of something to blog about for BEDA til I looked at the topic list! Day 19 should have been a book review but unless you count my Windows 7 exam boo I haven’t been getting much reading done so I figured I’d go back a day and create a really boring top ten list. Which is: Top Ten Things to do in my flat! (I did warn you I’d be posting lots of house related things!) So in no particular order:

  1. Have the (illegal!) socket removed from the bathroom
  2. Get a new shower installed
  3. Kitchen counter to be cut so I can open window fully
  4. Replacement door for gas cabinet
  5. Lock for bathroom door
  6. Fix handle on bedroom cupboard door
  7. Get carpets measured and laid
  8. Replace sealant around bath
  9. Decide which furniture is staying or going
  10. Move in!!!

I’m hoping to be in by May 1st but there really is no hurry. It’s all so exciting but at the same time a tad frightening!

#Operation Penny – Week Fifteen

18 Apr

So my week off turned into two but I’m pleased to say I’ve accomplished what I set out to do and haven’t gained any weight! The 10 stone mark is definitely my bodies happy weight but I’m determined to lose these last 10lbs!

The new dance term begins tonight and tomorrow I start couch to 5k in preparation for the Race for Life in just 11 weeks time. I’m excited but also a little nervous. I’ve never been much of a runner, what if I can’t make it the whole 5k? Either way I’m prepared to give it my best shot!
