London Film and Comic Con 2011

31 Aug

(If you’re not aware of how I came to be a geek of such standing go read this post. Then come back and read about the amazing weekend that was London Film and Comic Con 2011.)

Unfortunately after waking up for my flight on the Thursday morning with a delicate throat, spending 10 hours standing in the rain & wind and keeping myself going through afternoon tea and Much Ado About Nothing with Matt I was really not very well the weekend of LFCC. I’d been so psyched about my Sookie outfit for the Saturday but I hadn’t really made it with carrying tissues, soothers and flu tablets in mind. It looked ok (not great, but not entirely crap) but unfortunately I wasn’t looking so hot myself. There’s only one picture that I’m aware of with me in the full thing and it’s this one.

Unfortunately due to how much stuff I loaded into the apron it kinda fell apart on the way to the venue and to add insult to injury I lost the Merlottes patch that I had waited so patiently for to arrive in the post. *Sigh* Given how rubbish I was feeling I was thankful that all of the photoshoots I wanted were available for the Sunday (I also don’t like getting shoots when in cosplay) and I spent most of the day just wandering around chatting to people I bumped into and attending a few of the talks. There aren’t any talks at Milton Keynes so it was good to see the stars interacting with fans.

This post (and the next few as well) has now been in progress for almost two months and, well, I’ve been struggling to write it. So rather than beat myself up and try to force it I’ve decided to stop and instead provide you with picture overload! Sorry to disappoint!

Brent Spiner

Mark Sheppard

Richard Hatch

Devon Murray

It really was a fantastic weekend; I met some great guests, made new friends (including the one and only Mr Photoshoot!) as well as seeing people I’d met before. I just wish that I has the words to describe it all. However, lastly but by no means leastly, I will leave you to be jealous of the fact that on top of all that, I got to sit inside a DeLorean!!

Good things of 2011 – Part 34

Things to be done – Hallway – Update

17 Aug

Hallway

  • Put up door to cover meter – I tried but its too high up and my arms are just too weak :(
  • Hang rose canvas on wall – Yup, and I think it’s even straight(ish)
  • Replacement vent over bathroom door – Need to get to B&Q which is too far away for me to be bothered
  • Put together emergency toolkit – bought this ace little kit, and it’s PINK!
  • Possibly install radiator cover – That whole money issue again!

Things to be done – Lounge – Update

16 Aug

A lot of these require funds so I knew they wouldn’t be crossed off within the time period but I’ve at least crossed a couple off the list!

Lounge

  • Rename WiFi connection - My WiFi is now called The Hub <3 and it has an equally geeky password (no, I’m not telling! :P )
  • Set up WiFi TV – Yup, Lovefilm also set up so I now have movies on demand
  • TV on wall – I’ve actually decided not to go for this option
  • Shelve for xBox/Kinect/DVDs – TV not going on wall alters this somewhat
  • Build computer desk built by myself in  less than an hour

  • Get gaming PC built – been working out specs with my ex who is building it for me :)
  • Collect storage desk from mums – not yet, need to wait for my dad to get back from hols or a friend with a car
  • Organise display shelves – um… haven’t even got everything I need to put on display
  • Buy coffee table - £££
  • Buy dining table and chairs – £££
  • Buy corner sofa unit – £££
  • Get rid of excess furniture – have found someone who wants it so now just a waiting game
  • Red throw for sofa – haven’t been able to find one quite the right colour
  • Buy chair for computer – £££
  • Get a landphone – borrowed one from my mum as the red cordless one I wanted from Argos has now been discontinued *sigh*

Things to be done – Bedroom – Update

15 Aug

Despite giving myself an extra week I still haven’t achieved much on this list. I swear I’ve been busy yet I seem to have done nothing at all. Plus there’s been the mood. A very weird almost self-pitying mood. This is not me at all and I find it very disturbing but I seem to have found a little of my mojo again this evening and it feels go to be getting things done. Here’s hoping it’s here for the long haul, I’m tired of bursting into tears for no reason.

Bedroom

  • Hooks for hairdryer and straighteners – my own little hair station

  • Hang up jewellery holder – much more organised now!

  • Cover pin board with pink fabric – have measured up but the fabric I have is too small
  • Put up my quote art - well I did complete this but then it fell down and I can’t get it back out from behind the bed. FAIL!
  • Get/make curtain for door – nope
  • Hang curtain (tieback required) – see above
  • Chest of drawers for inside wardrobe – trying to scavenge one from my mum. May just have to bite the bullet and buy one though!
  • Fix cupboard door handle – Need to make a trip to B&Q *adds to list*

Good things of 2011 – Part 32

14 Aug

1) Baking cakes and making sandwiches with my niece for a mini afternoon tea

2) Lovely flatwarming gifts from relatives

3) Marks & Spencers Cosmo Fizz – this stuff is delicious

4) Finally finishing season 4 of Doctor Who!

5) Catching up on some much needed sleep

Money Matters

13 Aug

I’m a crap girl. I really am. I haven’t worn ANY makeup at all for the last 3 days. It’s probably a good thing as it means that when I’ve been tearing up at the many gestures of kindness on the Internet towards those who have been affected by the riots that my make-up doesn’t smudge. A couple that I’d like to make specific note of are:

  • Something nice for Ashraf - Which has raised over £22k for the boy who was helped up from the ground with a broken jaw before being robbed by a bunch of cowards
  • Keep Aaron Cutting - a fund to help an 89-year-old barber from Tottenham get his business back up and running
  • Help Siva - A shopkeeper whose livelyhood was torn apart by thugs during the riots. His insurance covered the building but not contents and without stock he would have been unable to keep going
  • @djrichreason - Offering lifts to people on Twitter to get them out of Manchester city centre
  • And of course @riotcleanup and @mancriotcleanup - For co-ordinating the many people who wanted to help return their cities to the beautiful places they are and proving that Twitter can be used as a force of good. It’s the people who are the problem NOT social media!

I’ve also been exceptionally bad at managing my money since the new tax year and purchasing my flat. There always seems to be something else that needs done and I never seem to have the time to just sit down and work out what I need to be doing to maximise my money. I’ve made a start by applying for a new ISA with Northern Rock (don’t worry they have full financial backing to the maximum £85,000) and a new current account with First Direct. This should pave the way for me to open one of their regular savings accounts earning a whopping 8% interest. I’m hoping to set aside a full weekend sometime soon to sort everything out but at least I’ve made a start!

Everyday I’m Shufflin’

9 Aug
So I know I was supposed to be posting to-do list reviews this week but with I kind of got distracted a bit yesterday evening and I’m going to give myself an extra week to tie up loose ends. Along with the rest of the world my heart is breaking at the senseless destruction of our beautiful capital city at the hands of thugs. I haven’t seen any of the footage as yet, I’m not a great fan of the news as there never seems to be anything positive on it to balance out the bad. Anything that’s worth me knowing about news-wise I get from Twitter and that’s where I’ve been watching it unfold. There are many people who I follow who are from in and around London and hearing about the riots and how scared people are even in what should be in the safety of their own homes is just sickening.

On a lighter note I found this post on Cornflake Girl’s blog to be a bit different from other’s I have done before and wanted to give it a go. The idea is that you put your iPod/mp3 player/whatever on shuffle, ask a question and then forward to get the answer. Now, there’ll be no cheating I’ll have you know, whatever song is played is the answer. No skipping forward and back til you find a specific one.

No idea why there’s so much Nickelback on there though, it’s never listened to!

Every day make-up

6 Aug

So I thought I’d give you a sneak peek of what I’m wearing most days during my Wear make up every day for a month challenge. I very much like my bed so have kept it as simple as possible so I can spend more time in it!

Natural Collection Tinted moisturiser in Fair
NYC Concealer Foundation Stick in Creamy Beige
2 true Smooth Matte Pressed Powder in Shade No. 1
Rimmel Sexy Curves Waterproof Mascara in Black
Nivea Lipcare Care Gloss & Shine

I use tinted moisturiser over foundation as my skin is too pale for most and to be honest my skin can be quite sensitive. It’s already having little temper tantrums as it is now that I’m wearing it every day so I might give it a miss next week. The NYC foundation stick is an amazing new find of mine from no other than Poundland! I love it more that the Collection 2000 Illuminating Touch light diffusing concealer I was using previously and is an absolute bargain for £1! Pressed powder stops me going shiny and of course waterproof mascara’s a staple in any girls make-up bag. Lastly, lipgloss. I love this stuff as it’s really moisturising with just a hint of colour. I have been mixing it up a little bit with other different coloured glosses throughout the week.

Today I did a little trial run of my Idiot’s Lantern Rose look in prep for Glasgow but with the exception from an extra coat of mascara and some eyeliner it’s not all that different to what I’ve been doing. Tomorrow I’m going out so I may even stretch so far as to involve some eyeshadow – outrageous!
