#16. Detox for a whole weekend

6 Sep

Technically this wasn’t a ‘weekend’ detox but it did last 48 hours so it totally counts. Yesterday I finally had my appointment for my x-ray that I’d been waiting for since November last year (remember this post?) and seeing as how I pretty much had to fast for a whole day I decided to go the whole hog and try a fruit and veg detox for the full 48 hours.

Naturally I spent most of Saturday stuffing my face with all those forbidden goodies like Gregg’s sausage rolls and lots of chocolate but come midnight I was on a strictly liquid diet until after the procedure. Another downside was that I also wasn’t allowed dairy as it’s difficult to digest and this of course meant that I wasn’t allowed tea after mid morning! I slept in until almost 10:30am which meant there was only time for one cuppa :( I then had to drink some horrible white stuff that would help ensure that my bowels were as clean as possible (the less said about that the better!)

Come 5pm I was absolutely starving having subsisted on water and fruit juice for the past 17 hours and I treated myself to some miso soup from Yo!Sushi (taking care not to swallow any of the veggies) which did help stop my tummy grumbling for a short while. Watching David Tennant wearing leather in Fright Night was also a great distraction for a couple of hours and then I figured that the best thing to do was have an early night.

I woke up after an almost 9-hour sleep and was surprisingly NOT hungry. I guess being anxious will fill up your tummy just as much as food does. I was early to my appointment but was seen early and instead of being the 3-4 hours as suggested in the leaflet I was in and out in an hour and a half. This left me with the rest of the day to myself. The hospital suggested that I eat a lot of fruit and vegetables as well as softer foods which worked out perfect for me. BUT it was extremely hard to resist the temptation to just stuff my face with everything in sight. In the end I settled for a cup of lentil soup from TGFS on the way home and spent the rest of the afternoon finishing up the various cartons of fruit juice littering my fridge as well as practically killing my kettle with the amount of tea I drank!

I had planned on popping to the shop for some fruit but couldn’t be bothered then after my dance class I found that I just wasn’t hungry which really does go to show that your body gets used to you feeding it regularly rather than you actually needing nourishment. With just 30 minutes left of the day I decided to call it a night instead of waiting up and possibly eating junk type food just because I could.

Being a girl I of course weighed myself throughout. On Saturday I was 143lbs, Sunday 142, Monday 141.6 and finally Tuesday140.8 meaning a 2.2lbs loss over 3 days. Not a huge amount but enough to get me kick started back into eating better and exercising more. I’ve put on 10lbs since mid-March – not a huge amount but enough to start to show and make me feel uncomfortable in my skin again so it’s back on the healthy bandwagon for me. It’s nice to see me closer to the sub 10 stone mark, its definately my body’s happy weight even if it isn’t mine! I got so close to my goal back in March at 132lbs I don’t know what made me lose motivation but nevermind. I’ve stocked up on Sit Tight firming lotion (currently on 3 for 2 at Boots) which I plan on using religiously and reviewing for you all in a couple of months. I also think it’s time I completed the Couch to 5k challenge in its entirity once and for all. A few trips in October may set me back a little bit but I’m confident I can complete it this time and I can get my wobbly ass back into a fitter state!
